What We Believe
At Blank Canvas Church in Oak Lawn, Illinois, our faith is rooted in the timeless truth of God’s Word. We are a Foursquare church — part of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel — and we hold to the historic, biblical Christian faith. Below is a summary of the core beliefs that guide our worship, our teaching, and our life together as a church community.
The Bible
We believe the Bible is the inspired, authoritative, and infallible Word of God. Scripture is the final authority for faith, life, and practice. We teach the Bible as truth that is relevant, practical, and life-changing for every person in every generation.
God
We believe in one God who eternally exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — three distinct persons, one divine being. God is holy, loving, all-knowing, all-powerful, and ever-present. He is the Creator of all things and the Author of every life.
Jesus Christ
We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, fully God and fully human. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross as the sacrifice for the sins of all humanity, and rose bodily from the dead on the third day. Jesus is the only way to the Father, and He offers eternal life to everyone who believes in Him.
Salvation
We believe salvation is the free gift of God’s grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ alone. It cannot be earned by good works or religious effort. When a person places their trust in Jesus, they receive forgiveness of sins, new life in the Spirit, and the promise of eternal life with God.
The Holy Spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit, who dwells in every believer, empowers the Church for ministry, produces the fruit of Christlike character, and continues the ministry of Jesus in the world today. We believe the gifts of the Holy Spirit are active and available for the Church today.
The Church
We believe the Church is the body of Christ, called to worship God, make disciples,
care for one another, and serve the world. We believe the local church is God’s primary instrument for bringing hope and transformation to every community.
Water Baptism
We believe water baptism is a public declaration of faith and obedience to Jesus Christ. It is an outward expression of an inward transformation — a testimony that we have died to our old life and been raised to new life in Christ.
The Great Commission
We believe every follower of Jesus is called to make disciples — to share the Gospel, baptize new believers, and teach them to follow Jesus. This commission shapes how we live, how weserve, and how we reach our community in Oak Lawn and across Chicagoland.
Eternal Life
We believe in the personal return of Jesus Christ and in the resurrection of the dead. Those who have placed their faith in Jesus will spend eternity with God. We live in light of that hope, and we invite everyone to discover it for themselves.
